At 30 km from Garda’s lake and not far from the Trento’s province, the Castle of Avio is a majestic circuit of towers and crenelated walls in a fortress complex conceived for the strategic control of the valley of the River Adige, but also a lush garden and a treasure trove of valuable, vibrant "Giotto-esque" pictorial cycles dedicated to love and war. Open from February to December, you can visit it on your own or through a guided tour and enjoy a typical lunch or wine tasting at the end of the visit.

Opening times

The Castle of Avio is open to the public with the following opening hours:

From Friday 14th February to Sunday 28th September 2025
Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Last admission at 5 p.m.)

From Wednesday 1st October to Sunday 16th November 2025
Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Last admission at 4 p.m.)

In August the Castle is open every day, from Monday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
(last admission and access closes at 5 p.m.).

Getting here

By car
A22 motorway (“Autostrada del Brennero”), exit at the Ala-Avio toll gate, between Verona and Trento, then follow the signs for “Castello di Avio”.

By train
Verona - Brennero line, Avio - Vo Sinistro station (from the train station you have to walk to the Castle, around 2.5 km away).

By bus
From Trento: B301 bus line to Rovereto, then change with B334 bus line to Sabbionara d'Avio. From the bus stop, you have to walk to the Castle, around 1 km away. Public transport line Trentino Trasporti: https://www.trentinotrasporti.it/viaggia-con-noi/extraurbano/regione-3

Guided tours for groups are available, as are special visits. Prior booking is required.

Guided tour tickets (Rates valid for minimum 20 people, up to 35):

Parking

There is a car park 450 m from the Castle, and a bus park in Sabbionara d'Avio (1 km from the Castle).
Please note that the streets leading up to the Castle are narrow and cobbled, not suitable for campers.

Purchases from the bookshop make a tangible contribution to supporting the work of FAI.

Accessibility

Visitors with disabilities and, when applicable, their caregiver have free access, in accordance with M.D. 507/97 updated to M.D. 13/2019 and L.104/92.

A reduced ticket is required in case of guided tours, events and other additional services.

Guide dogs and therapy dogs with a training certificate for assistance to persons with disabilities are allowed, always on a leash.

For persons with reduced mobility: difficult access to the property due to its historical nature.

Good to know

Dogs are always welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times.
We recommend wearing closed shoes with non-smooth rubber sole, suitable for dirt trails.

During events, we document the activities through videos and photographs, publishing them on our institutional communication channel (online and offline). The images are also provided to local and national press.
